The Philippine Football League (PFL) is currently entertaining ways to safely start its 2020 season due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID) pandemic. One option is to follow the precedent set by the National Basketball League (NBA) and play under a theoretical bubble.
PFL Commissioner Coco Torre told PSA Forum Webcast listeners that the league had floated several options, including playing all games in a bubble. Other options include playing with no fans and extensive COVID testing. While there is an ample number of hotels near the match venue in Carmona, the league fears the cost of a bubble could be too much.
Mariano Araneta is the current president of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). Araneta has been working on bringing Philippine football back to television and other deals to popularize the sport across the Philippines. Araneta said the PFF could help with the bubble’s cost if the PFL decides that is what is best for the league and the players.
Three of five PFL clubs are currently scheduled to begin training this week; however, the league still needs to get approval to start the season from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). If the IATF approves the start of the PFL, the league hopes to start in about a month.
Betting odds for the PFL are available online with sportsbooks that operate outside of the Philippines. Philippine gambling laws forbid domestic sportsbooks, online or brick-and-mortar, from accepting bets on domestic sporting events. Online sportsbooks based in the Philippines are also not allowed to offer betting lines to Filipino residents.
Since online soccer betting options are limited, shopping for betting lines can be a nuisance. Our guide to betting on soccer matchups helps Filipino bettors navigate through the legal loopholes and find football betting odds that are legal to place bets on.
When betting online, there are several options for placing a bet. Online sportsbooks often offer live betting odds that can be played while the action is unfolding. You will also see futures, game lines, totals, and proposition bets on the action.
The conveniences of betting online have opened several different options for Filipino bettors. With a stable online connection, PFL, PBA, Boxing, and just about every other sport you can think of can be bet with an account and a couple of finger swipes. Most of the online sportsbooks listed in our guides offer casino, poker, and horse betting under a single user account to top it off.
While we wait for the IATF to approve of the PFL’s return, now is an excellent time to get an online sportsbook account verified and ready for the upcoming 2020 PFL season.
