Philippine-Sports-Commission-logoThe Philippine Sports Commission is preparing to recognize the country’s top Filipina athletes and sports figures at the Women in Sports Awards on March 20 in Pasay City. Organized in partnership with the Philippine Commission on Women, the event aims to spotlight outstanding performances and contributions across various disciplines, reinforcing the growing presence of women in Philippine sports.

Leading this year’s honorees is the Philippine women’s national football team, which earned top recognition after a series of notable achievements on the international stage. The awards will also acknowledge individual athletes, coaches, and advocates whose efforts have helped elevate women’s participation and success in competitive sports.

Beyond individual recognition, the ceremony underscores a broader commitment to advancing gender equality in athletics. Organizers say the event not only celebrates excellence but also seeks to inspire continued support for women in sports, recognizing their role in shaping the nation’s athletic future.

PSC commissioner and bowling icon Bong Coo said the star-studded ceremony, featuring 83 honorees, is designed to strengthen the country’s push for inclusive sports development and advance gender equality nationwide.

Philippine women’s national football team

The Women’s National Football team (Filipinas) has achieved several milestones over the past few years, elevating the team to elite status. Their most recent achievement is reaching the Quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup. By reaching the Asian Cup quarterfinals, the Filipinas automatically earned a slot in the 2028 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Other Standout Athletes In Women’s Sports

While there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding the upcoming event, there are two other athletes who will be recognized at the event: Brenda Ramos Zinampan and Angel Mae Otom.

Brenda Ramos Zinampan, a veteran track athlete from the Philippines, will receive the Master’s Award at the upcoming PSC event. In 2025, she won a total of four gold medals at the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships in the 100m dash, 80m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and pole vault competitions.

Angel Mae Otom is set to be recognized as the Para Athlete of the Year at the upcoming Women in Sports Awards event. At the 2025 ASEAN Para Games, she won five gold medals and one silver medal and broke a long-standing games record in the 100m backstroke.

Betting on Women’s Sports

While there are many opportunities to bet on women athletes, some of the most popular include betting on soccer, Olympic-style events, MMA, and women’s basketball.

Online sportsbooks and local gambling venues often carry lines on women’s sports; however, there are local restrictions on betting on events held in the country. Since local sportsbooks are not allowed to offer odds on events that take place within the country, many bettors turn to legalsportsbetting.ph sportsbook sites that operate from offshore.

Current gambling laws do not criminalize wagering on sports online. However, recent legislation has revoked the offshore operators’ licenses in the Philippines as the country looks to reform its gambling options.
