After holding the title of the second most successful team in PBA history with 14 championships, the Alaska Aces have announced they are departing from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The Alaska Aces announced their decision this past Wednesday and said the team would withdraw from competition immediately following the completion of their 2022 Governor’s Cup run.
The Alaska Aces are owned by the Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) and are currently one of the most popular teams in the league. The Ace’s last Championship came in 2013 when they won the Philippine Cup. The Aces also won 9 championships in the 90 with a rare grand slam (winning all three major conferences). A grand slam has only ever been achieved by four PBA franchises.
PBA Governor’s Cup
The 2022 PBA Governors Cup resumed on Feb 11 after being delayed due to another COVID-19 outbreak throughout the country. The Alaska Aces are currently in 4th with six wins and three losses behind the Road Warriors, Meralco, and this year’s favorites Magnolia.
Despite currently sitting in 4th place, the Alaska Aces have a good shot at winning the 2022 PBA Governor’s Cup as they are only one game back from Magnolia, who currently sits in 1st.
