The San Miguel Beermen has won the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup and is looking to become the only team in history to win the All-Filipino crown for five straight seasons.
To win the Philippine Cup, San Miguel had to overcome an earlier deficit of 17 points. It was one of those games where you weren’t sure how things were going to end. Despite getting down early, the Beermen rallied back to win by a final score of 72-71.
Beermen point guard Alex Cabagnot has had a rough past couple of games but came through in a big way for his team on Wednesday night. Alex scored 18 points in the game and scored the basket that put the Beermen up by 1 point with 57.2 seconds to go in the game.
Beermen Center June Mar Fajardo also played a spectacular game and finished with 17 points, two steals, and two blocks. On top of his good play in game 7, June finished the tournament with 31 rebounds making him the all-time rebound leader for the Philippine Cup. June was named most valuable player (MVP) after the game for his recording breaking rebound frenzy.
The San Miguel Beermen went into the half losing 25-36, and after only scoring 5 points in the second quarter, the team looked like they were about to be upset by the Magnolia Hotshots.
In the third quarter, the Beermen started to wake up and put on an impressive second half. With eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Beermen finally regained the lead only to flop back and forth till the end of the game.
