The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) has officially given the ok for contact and non-contact sports to begin play in Metro Manila.
Metro Manila and the National Capital Region (NCR) will be placed under Alert Level 2 from Feb 1st-15th, clearing the way to resume contact sports and other activities. However, sporting events must still follow guidelines put in place by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and GAB. Live audiences for sporting events will also be subject to government discretion and safety guidelines.
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has recently announced that teams can hold ten scrimmage games starting Feb. 1st. Each team will be allowed up to 10 scrimmage matchups before the 2021 PBA Governor’s Cup will resume on Feb. 11th.
The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing, China, where restrictions are not currently affecting the games. Philippine athletes will also be in attendance for the games that start on Feb. 4th, 2022.
Betting On Sports
Betting on Philippine sports will be available when the leagues resume play. For most bettors, restrictions have only delayed action. However, there are odds for other international sports available online. Some of the more popular leagues to bet on include NFL, NBA, MLB, Cricket, Horse racing, and more.
Online sportsbooks are allowed to accept action from Philippine accounts. Domestic sportsbooks were allowed to offer betting lines online or through a mobile app during the pandemic. Online sports betting has become the norm under current guidelines that restrict how many people can visit an establishment at a given time.
