UFC president Dana White has stated to the media that he doesn’t want Conor McGregor to fight Manny Pacquiao later this year, but instead wants Conor to focus on reclaiming his legendary status in the UFC.
UFC 257 is scheduled for January 23rd and will feature Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor in a much-anticipated mixed martial arts rematch. Conor first fought Dustin in 2014 (UFC 178) as a featherweight. The fight lasted almost 2 minutes before Conor scored a TKO by mounting Poirier and knocking him out with hammer fists.
For UFC 257, both McGregor and Poirier will be fighting in the lightweight division. Poirier took the loss to McGregor especially hard and had since gone on a 12-2-1 fight run, only losing to Michael Johnson and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Online sportsbooks are heavily favoring Conor McGregor to win the rematch, and rumors indicate that he could see Khabib in his next UFC fight if he wins. However, for that to occur, Dana White will have to talk Khabib out of retirement.
