Is It Legal To Bet On The NCAA In The Philippines?

About the National Collegiate Athletic Association

Basketball was introduced to the Philippines in the early 1900s during the American occupation. For nearly as long as the sport has been in the country, the National Collegiate Athletic Association has been operating in the Philippines to facilitate college athletics. The NCAA was formed in 1924 and is the oldest athletic association in the islands.
The NCAA saw a sizable amount of growth in the 1950s, and after some issues between the 1960s and 1980s, the league expanded again in the 1990s and 2000s. Today, 10 Metro Manila teams make up the NCAA.

What Is The Philippine NCAA Tournament Format?
Teams in the NCAA play an 18-game regular season before seeds are set for the tournament, which takes place during the July-November semester. The event is split into two categories: Seniors and Juniors. Should the same school win both tournaments, they will have won the “double championship.”
The current NCAA tournament format is structured around a double-elimination process where each school plays the other school twice. The four teams with the best records make it to the semifinals, which is called the Final Four. The top two clubs have a twice-to-beat advantage, and the finals are contested in a best-of-three series.

NCAA Participation In The PCCL Tournament
While the NCAA has not had the same success as the UAAP in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) tournament, the association has done well for itself. Since the inception of the PCCL championship, the NCAA has produced four championships from three different teams: San Sebastian in 2011, San Beda in 2014 and 2015, and Lyceum in 2017.
However, the NCAA might have a harder time competing for the PCCL championship since the format changed in 2018. Since then, the UAAP and NCAA teams have had their own separate brackets, with only one winner coming out between the two to face one of the smaller schools in the final.
