After months of speculation and toying with the idea, Senator Manny Pacquiao has officially announced that he will run for President of the Philippines in 2022. The official announcement came via Twitter on September 19th.

The Duterte Administration
For months Pacquiao has been throwing shade at the current administration, calling them corrupt despite his past support of current PH President Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte recently announced that he will be running for Vice President in 2022, insinuating that he will throw his support behind another candidate. Duterte critics see his bid for the vice presidency as a way to avoid prosecution following his controversial Presidential term.
Despite an assignation attempt on his life and his 2019 comments about ordering an assignation of several domestic politicians, Duterte remains incredibly popular among Philippine voters.
Recent Developments
Recently Senator Pacquiao brought a lawsuit against a famous evangelist Apollo Quiboloy, who claimed the Philippine Senator embezzled money from a new sports complex set to be built. Pacquiao claims that pastor Quiboloy, a close friend of Rodrigo Duterte, uses his popularity to smear his name before the 2022 election.
The PDP-Laban party has recently announced that Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go will be their presidential candidate, and current President Rodrigo Duterte will be vice president. Senator Lawerence later declined the nomination and the bid was then offered to Senator Pacquiao.
